Young People and
SDGs

Tools for young people with and without disabilities to contribute to the change of society by promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDCs)

Our Main Objective:

The main purpose of this project is to promote social inclusion of young people with disabilities.
Consequently, this project is aimed to provide tools to young people in order to support and help them to empower themselves and participate in society through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We want them to participate and commit with the rest of young people, with the purpose of mobilizing, debating and disseminating the SDGs. In this way, all the goals achieved with the project can be multiplied.

Why SDGs?

During the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Member States agreed to launch a process to develop a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDCs) to succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDCs).
The SDGs are to address all three dimensions of sustainable development (environmental, economic and social) and be coherent with and integrated into the United Nations global development agenda. Disability is referenced in various parts of the SDGs and specifically in parts related to education, growth and employment, inequality, accessibility of human settlements, as well as data collection and monitoring of the SDGs.

The DIPAS was developed through intensive internal and external consultations, including UN Agencies, governments, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, and youth with disabilities and it is guided by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS).The vision of the UNICEF DIPAS is a more inclusive world by 2030 where all children, including those with disabilities, live in barrier-free and inclusive communities. The DIPAS sets out six strategic priorities: prevention of stigma and discrimination; improvement of disability-inclusive services, programmes and workplaces; access to comprehensive community care and support services; access to assistive technology; disability-inclusive action in humanitarian, emergency and fragile contexts; full and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities. The DIPAS is the roadmap for greater cross-sectoral coordination for disability inclusion to be mainstreamed across the organization at every level to meet the needs of the world’s 240 million children with disabilities.Read the UNICEF Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy: 2022-2030 here: www.unicef.org/media/134031/file/UNICEF_Disability_and_Inclusion_Strategy_2022_2030_Short_Version... ...
